The Systems Engineer is responsible for researching, designing and implementing a diverse set of technology. This role performs systems integration and support of Windows Servers, IBM iSeries Servers, VMware Virtualized Servers, Storage Area Networks, and Firewalls.


This position will serve as the main technical interface to the client and have a direct impact on client satisfaction. Therefore, candidates should also have a demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision and possess a high level of customer service skill. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also crucial, as well as being able to work with technical, non-technical, or executive staff.


MFA Oil Company is based in Columbia, MO but this position is available to remote applicants.

  • Provide Tier III escalation path for teams
  • Manage the evaluation and implementation of new products and technologies which typically cover a broad variety of enterprise-class infrastructure disciplines
  • Research and recommend innovative technologies and approaches for enterprise infrastructure management, upgrades, or improvements
  • Analyze system requirements, including identifying interactions and appropriate interfaces between affected components and sub systems
  • Proactively plan capacity of platforms and applications
  • Assist in developing and implementing automated processes for maintaining and integrating systems
  • Create and update client and ticket information within the primary dispatch portal
  • Train client staff on new technology implementations
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for System Administrators and staff
  • Ensure proper documentation and management of systems and projects
  • Assist the Security team with establishing best practices and hardening systems
  • Assist Network team to design, configure and maintain LAN-based and WAN-based networks
  • Travel to remote sites or training as needed, including overnight, not to exceed 50%

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business administration, related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of six (6) years of IT experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years in technical project implementation and leading a project team
  • Exceptional knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Exceptional knowledge of Network and Internet technologies: Email, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP
  • Experience with deploying Virtualization Technology (VMware), VCP
  • Experience with Windows PowerShell
  • Experience with REST and SOAP APIs
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work self-directed, prioritize tasks, and make decisions with little supervision
  • Ability to travel throughout organization’s footprint and as needed for training, including overnight stays, for up to 50% of work schedule
  • Ability to exchange accurate information with MFA Oil Company employees and customers in English
  • Ability to meet company requirements including successful pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
